Montjuïc: history, culture and nature with views of the Mediterranean

Today we want to invite you to discover Montjuïc, a mountain that combines nature, art, sport and history.

Montjuïc is one of Barcelona's green lungs, with paths, gardens, and sea views that invite leisurely strolls. At the top, you'll find Montjuïc Castle, a former military fortress with a unique panoramic view of the coastline. Nearby, the Mossèn Costa i Llobera Gardens, specializing in cacti and succulents, will surprise you with their originality and tranquility.

This mountain is also a major cultural center. It houses the Museu Nacional d'Art de Catalunya (MNAC), the Fundació Joan Miró, and the Teatre Grec, an open-air theater that is part of the Grec Festival (June 26 to August 4), one of the most important cultural events of the summer in Barcelona.

Furthermore, Montjuïc was the heart of the 1992 Olympic Games. Today you can visit the Olympic Ring, with the Olympic Stadium, the Calatrava Tower and the famous Bernat Picornell Swimming Pools, which are still in use and offer spectacular views.

You can easily reach Montjuïc by bus (lines 55 or 150) , or take the Montjuïc Cable Car, which departs from the funicular station in Paral·lel (metro lines L2 and L3) and gently ascends to the castle.

And as a grand finale, the Magic Fountain of Montjuïc shines once again after several years of drought. The water, light, and music shows take place from Wednesday to Saturday at 9:30 p.m., from May 31st to September 30th. An ideal way to end the day with magic.
